Enna was really, really, really good at being perceptive. She knew she was!! She was a good friend and a good person and she loved all her friends very much, actually, so of course she'd notice when there was something wrong. Which is why she definitely noticed that Dany wasn't at breakfast way before she had already wolfed down her heaping plate of bacon and eggs. Definitely! She certainly hadn't sat down, eaten half her weight in protein, and only afterwards noticed that her best friend in the entire world wasn't downstairs yet. Those would be the actions of a dumb person, and despite what Lyle kept saying she was definitely not dumb.
Anyway! Since Enna was such a good friend, she knew exactly what her best friend needed on days like this. And that was her!! Dany had told her a lot about how much she appreciated having her around, especially when she was having days where she couldn't get out of bed. So the best idea was to crash her way up the stairs, burst through Dany's door, and rush to her bedside while yelling about how it was a beautiful day and how it was almost as beautiful as her best friend!!!!!!!
But Dany rolled over in bed away from her, groaning and pulling a pillow over her head, and for a minute there Enna was hurt. Did her best friend not want to be loudly and vocally appreciated? She considered backing out of the room, worried for a moment that she'd upset Dany, but then she heard what Dany was actually saying. Something about "not so much noise, for the love of the gods," and THEN Enna understood perfectly. She had done this exact thing two mornings ago after a particularly fun evening with Felix and Iona where she had forgotten to drink as much water as she should have and then Emiel had woken her up with flute practice at noon-o-clock and she had about broken a hole in the wall. But Dany hadn't had anything to drink last night, so what the fuck!! All they'd done was come back from the mission, and-
Oh!!! The mission!! Enna had maybe fucked up, a little, and had forgotten to draw aggro from all the skeletons in that spooky crypt, and maybe one of them had gotten past her and started attacking her friends. Which, to be fair, was mostly Lyle, and his armor class was pretty good so she wasn't too worried about him, so she kept hitting the three of them that were ganging up on her. And then she had heard a yell from behind her, and she'd turned around to see Dany getting whacked on the head by the skeleton, and her vision had gone red and she didn't remember much after that. She had assumed that Dany had gotten healing while she'd been pulverizing the skeletons, and when she had checked in on her she'd said she was fine, but in retrospect her best friend had a tendency to say she was fine when she actually absolutely wasn't. Probably she should have made sure Dany didn't have a concussion. Probably would have been the smart thing to do!! Well, whatever, no ragrets. She could take care of her now.
Enna crouched by Dany's bed. "Heyyy, I am super sorry for busting in here at full volume, also I love you very much and is there anything I can do for you?"
Dany rolled back over to smile weakly at her and shook her head. "No, don't worry about me! I'm fine, just a little sleepy?" This would have been a lot more convincing if she didn't still have the pillow pressed over her head and wasn't wincing at the sound of her own voice.
"Yeah, well, usually you don't react to me by rolling away from me, because we're best friends who have matching tattoos and we love each other forever, so I am thinking it's something else?" Enna was careful to keep her tone from getting accusatory or mean, because Dany didn't deserve that when she maybe had a concussion. "You're not hungover, right?"
Dany took the pillow off her head and smiled again, putting more teeth into it this time while failing to make it any more convincing. "Haha, no, I'm fine! I've just got- ugh- just a bit of a headache! I just need to-"
Dany started to get up, and Enna flopped down across her lap. Dany was pretty strong since she was a dwarf and also a ranger, but migraine-Dany was not strong enough to move an Enna who was determined to keep her best friend in bed. "Nope, nuh-uh, you're staying in bed!! Did you even get healed yesterday or did you tell Elleri that she should save her spell slots?" Enna frowned up at Dany, which was maybe a little less impactful because she was unceremoniously sprawled across Dany's weighted floral comforter.
"Well, I didn't really get hit that hard, so I don't see why I needed healing? I'm fine now! I got a full rest, I'm back up to full." Dany tried again to shove Enna off her lap so she could get up, but her arms got weaker the instant she touched Enna's biceps. Enna had known that would happen, because she was really perceptive. Checkmate, Lyle.
Enna reached up to pat her on the cheek very gently. "I am going to have Big Boof lay on you, and I am going to get you breakfast, and then I am going to go ask Elleri if she has anything for headaches, and I am going to leave your name out of it because I don't think having her come up here and ask you a hundred million questions would be really good for you right now!" Right on cue, Big Boof climbed up onto the bed and nosed at her, so she levered herself off her best friend's lap so he could rest his huge doggy head on Dany. "Does that sound okay?"
Dany leaned forward to bury her face in Big Boof's fur and nodded, unable to form words at the moment. Which Enna understood, because Enna was a really good friend. She leaned down to press a kiss to the top of Dany's head and then tiptoed as quietly as she could out of the room, wondering if french toast was an okay meal for migraines and if she could make it without burning it.
Author's Notes:
This was written 6/26/2017. I think this was set in the part of Enna's arc where she's just realized that she can have friends and be nice to them, which is why she's very over-the-top here.
